Sagna Opens Up on “Dirty” Arsenal Exit

Bacary Sagna has recently opened up about how he left Arsenal with only disappointment in 2014.

The 37-year-old French footballer left the Gunners on a free summer transfer, after allowing his contract to expire; he went on to join Manchester City on a three-year deal.

Several exits from high-profile players at the time – such as Cesc Fabregas and Samir Nasri – left Sagna unsure of his future with the club, and this reflected whenever he spoke publicly at the time.

After Alex Song left in 2012, Sagna gave an interview to French newspaper, “L’Equipe”. He had praised Song’s ability and mentioned feeling uncertain about his contract.

Shortly after the interview, club management approached him, which he says “hurt” him as a player and left him feeling “a bit dirty” after his own subsequent exit from the team.

He said: “I didn’t like it, I didn’t feel comfortable anymore. Something broke inside my head.”

Sagna added: “So I expected a bit more respect and so I made up my mind. When [club management] came and said how can we help you, I said it was too late.”
