Anne Hathaway has revealed that she was expected to kiss multiple different men for a “gross” chemistry test in her early acting career.

The 41-year-old actress revealed during an interview with an international publication on Monday, 22 April, that she felt she had to go along with the practice or else risk being accused of being unprofessional.

“Back in the 2000s – and this did happen to me – it was considered normal to ask an actor to make out with other actors to test for chemistry. Which is actually the worst way to do it,” she said.

The actress went on to add: “I was told, ‘We have ten guys coming today and you’re cast. Aren’t you excited to make out with all of them?’ And I thought, ‘Is there something wrong with me?’ because I wasn’t excited. I thought it sounded gross.”

Hathaway didn’t mention which movie in her illustrious career required the makeout sessions to take place. She simply said: “It was just a very different time and now we know better.”

The “Devil Wears Prada” star has come a long way since those days, as she is one of the producers for the newly released film, “The Idea of You”, which she also stars in.
