Yaya Toure Points Fingers at Pep Guardiola for Failed UEFA Campaign

It seems Manchester City manager, Pep Guardiola, has several dark clouds gathering over his head, and the latest thunderclap of criticism comes from venerable footballer, Yaya Toure.

The 37-year-old, former Man City midfielder told a sporting news outlet that Guardiola should have bagged the UEFA Champions League title, calling the 49-year-old Spaniard’s campaign failure “strange and disappointing”.

Manchester City lost 3-1 to Lyon in the quarter-finals last week. Many expected Guardiola’s squad to advance to the final but instead spiralled into a humiliating defeat, with much criticism aimed at the coach and his tactics.

Toure said: “Everybody knows [Guardiola] is a great manager, but at the moment, when things aren’t going their way, sometimes is it time maybe to change? I don’t know, we will see.”

He and Guardiola endured a strained relationship across two clubs – starting with Barcelona in 2007, and ending with City confirming in June 2010 that the Ivorian would be leaving.
