– An Australian court has ordered Queensland-based gaming YouTuber, Karl Jobst, to pay over AU$380 000 in damages to celebrity arcade gamer, Billy Mitchell, due to defamatory comments made by Jobst in a video published in 2021. In the video, Jobst had claimed that Mitchell’s lawsuit against fellow YouTuber, Benjamin “Apollo Legend” Smith, led to Smith taking his own life in 2020.
– Activision will finally allow “Call of Duty” console users to disable crossplay in regular unranked matches, starting with Season 3 of “Black Ops 6.” This long-awaited feature arrives six years after crossplay was introduced as a central component of “Call of Duty” with the 2019 “Modern Warfare” reboot.
– Members of ZeniMax Workers United, a union of over 300 quality assurance workers who work for ZeniMax-owned studios, including Bethesda, have voted to authorise a strike to protest against “underpayment and costly [return to work] initiatives.”
– Jagex, the studio behind the “RuneScape” franchise, has announced “RuneScape: Dragonwilds”, an open-world survival game developed on Unreal Engine 5. It will feature both single-player and online co-op modes for up to three players. The game will be released for early access in mid-2025.
