Veteran Actress Dame Diana Rigg Dies at 82

Perennial actress Diana Rigg has passed away after a long battle with cancer at the age of 82.

Dame Diana – full name Enid Diana Elizabeth Rigg – was best known for her roles in the fantasy political series “Game of Thrones” as Olenna Tyrell, and Emma Peel in the 1960s British espionage television series “The Avengers”.

Her daughter, actress Rachael Stirling, said that she had died “peacefully” from cancer – which was diagnosed in March this year – at her London home on Thursday, 10 September.

Once the news broke, tributes across social media started pouring in for the late actress.

Social media remembered her for her memorable characters; the official Twitter account for James Bond paid tribute to the only woman to have married the British super spy in “On Her Majesty’s Secret Service”.

The Twitter account for “Game of Thrones” simply said: “Be a dragon. The realm will always remember Diana Rigg.”

Stirling said that her mother had “spent her last months joyfully reflecting on her extraordinary life, full of love, laughter and a deep pride in her profession.”
