TV Pundit Fired Over Racist Remarks on Lukaku

An Italian TV pundit has been immediately fired for making shocking racist comments on-air regarding Inter Milan striker, Romelu Lukaku, on Sunday, 15 September.

Lukaku’s move to Inter Milan has so far been met with two horrible incidents of racism. Earlier this month, the Belgian striker was subjected to “monkey chants” from the crowd during Inter Milan’s 2-1 Serie A victory over Cagliari.

Although the actions of the monkey chanters were criticised world wide, racist abuse of Lukaku continued over the weekend – this time by an 80-year-old Italian football pundit, Luciano Passirani.

Passirani was a guest on TV show TopCalcio24, and the discussion was about the impact Lukaku has made for Inter since he joined the team.

The pundit started by praising Lukaku, saying that he is one of the strongest players in Serie A, but then suggested that the only way to stop the striker was to give him bananas.

He said: “If they go one-on-one with you you’re dead, you fall to the ground. The only way to out-muscle him is to give him ten bananas to eat.”

Despite Passirani’s apology saying he was trying to make a joke, channel director, Fabio Ravezzanitro, went on air immediately to reiterate the apology and dismiss the pundit.
