Manchester United’s latest financial results reveal that the club spent £14.5 million on the dismissals of manager Erik ten Hag, sporting director Dan Ashworth and other football staff.

The steep amount adds to a turbulent season, with United struggling in 15th place in the English Premier League rankings after their 1-0 loss to Tottenham Hotspur last Sunday, 16 February.

Ten Hag, initially backed after winning the Football Association Cup, was sacked in October last year – just months after his contract extension. The club then paid £10.4 million to remove his coaching staff.

Meanwhile, Ashworth, who was hired in July after a lengthy negotiation with Newcastle United, was dismissed in December that same year, with a £4.1-million price tag.

The Red Devils also paid £10.6 million in compensation to Sporting CP to bring in new manager, Ruben Amorim, whose tenure has so far failed to lift the team and produce results.

Co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s INEOS group has injected £80 million to stabilise finances, but several challenges remain. CEO Omar Berrada acknowledged the struggles, stating that the club is “working hard” to improve its league position.
