Tottenham Star’s London Home Burgled

The family of Tottenham Hotspur central defender, Jan Vertonghen, were left shaken – but unharmed – after they were held at knifepoint by burglars last Tuesday night, 10 March.

The burglary took place at Vertonghen’s property in London, England – his wife, Sophie De Vries, and their two young children were home at the time of the break-in.

That same evening, the 32-year-old Belgian international was an unused substitute during Tottenham’s 3-0 Champions League defeat against RB Leipzig in Germany.

According to reports, four male individuals – wearing balaclavas, and wielding knives and machetes – broke into the property. They proceeded to threaten De Vries, demanding valuables and cash.

An anonymous source explained to a media publication: “[De Vries] was obviously terrified and did as she was told. The group carried out a search and fled with electronic items.”

Other homes in the neighbourhood were also apparently targeted by the same group.

A Tottenham spokesperson said that the club is standing by Vertonghen and his family “through this terribly traumatic time.”

A police investigation into the burglary is currently underway and has yielded no arrests thus far.
