Torreira Sidelined for the Entire Season

Arsenal have confirmed that Lucas Torreira could miss the rest of the Premier League 2019/20 season, following an ankle fracture injury he sustained during their FA Cup win over Portsmouth last week Monday, 2 March 2020.
The Uruguay midfielder was taken off the pitch on a stretcher, following a challenge by Portsmouth defender James Bolton, and was later seen leaving the stadium on crutches.
According to a statement released by The Gunners, the 24-year-old is in recovery and will only return to action in 8 – 10 weeks.
The statement reads: “ [Torreira] sustained a fracture to his right ankle during Portsmouth, still receiving continual assessments. Recovery process expected to take between eight to ten weeks.”
Being ruled out for 10 weeks leaves Torreira in danger of missing the remainder of the EPL season, which is due to end on 17 May.
Torreira was still fighting for a spot in Arsenal’s starting IX, having made only 25 appearances in all competitions this season. He has not been featured under Mikel Arteta since the 2-2 draw at Chelsea at the end of January. His opportunity of impressing Arteta seems to have been ruined by this injury.
