Southgate Sings Sterling’s Praises After Gomez Tiff

In an abrupt turnaround, England manager Gareth Southgate is now set to give Raheem Sterling a spot on the starting team for their Euro 2020 qualifying game against Kosovo on Sunday, 17 November.

The 24-year-old Manchester City winger was dropped from the national team after he and Liverpool’s Joe Gomez were involved in an on-field scrap during the Reds 3-1 win over the Citizens last Sunday, 10 November.

They appeared to make up at the end of the match by hugging each other.

Sterling will miss England meeting Montenegro on Thursday, 14 November, but will return to the English line-up for the Kosovo clash.

The 49-year-old national team boss confirmed the news when asked at a press meeting about Sterling returning.

Southgate said: “Yes, without knowing what might happen in [today’s] game and everything else, but I can see that being the case.”

He added: “His reaction has been brilliant. He spoke to the team really well and he’s trained really well, and I can’t fault his reaction at all.”
