South Africa: Ex-Minister’s Wife Heads to Court
The wife of South Africa’s former finance minister is set to appear in court today, Monday 3 August, following her arrest last week.
On Friday evening, 31 July, Norma Gigaba – the wife of Malusi Gigaba, who served as the country’s finance minister from March 2017 to February 2018 – was arrested at the couple’s home in Waterkloof, Pretoria.
According to reports, the 45-year-old allegedly scratched a Mercedes Benz G-Wagon belonging to her husband’s friend, Peterson Siyaya.
Charged with assault and malicious damage to property, it is also believed that Mrs Gigaba is also being investigated by by the civilian police force, the Hawks, for allegedly conspiring to murder her husband.
However, the Hawks’ spokesperson has not confirmed if this investigation is indeed being carried out.
Released on R5 000 bail after spending an evening in jail, Mrs Gigaba is scheduled to appear in Hatfield Magistrates Court, after which the Hawks will hand over her case to the police.
