With an aim to reduce their gigantic wage bill, Juventus have offered Cristiano Ronaldo to Barcelona in what could be one of the most bizarre transfer agreements of this year.

Juventus have been hit hard financially by the COVID-19 pandemic, and are trying to get Ronaldo’s huge £28m-per-year salary off their books.

Ronaldo enjoyed another successful campaign at Juventus, finishing as their top goalscorer with 35 goals in all competitions, and winning a second Serie A title.

Despite lifting the Serie A silverware, the Old Lady finished with worse statistics in comparison to their last nine seasons, and saw the club dismissing its head coach, Maurizio Sarri.

Getting rid of Ronaldo’s salary will free up funds sufficient to allow the new coach, Andrea Pirlo, to visit the transfer market and build his own team.

The Portuguese superstar’s agent, Jorge Mendes, has been mandated to find a team for Ronaldo – which saw the 35-year-old forward being offered everywhere, including to Paris Saint-Germain and Real Madrid.

However, a Barcelona transfer raises the exciting prospect of seeing Ronaldo paired up with long time rival and competitor for decades, Lionel Messi.
