Sergio Aguero Faces Knee Surgery

Manchester City forward, Sergio Aguero, is set to be flown to Barcelona to see a specialist, after initial scans have revealed a knee injury which threatens to end his season.

The Argentina international forward limped off the field during Man City’s 5-0 victory over Burnley on Monday, 22 June, at the Etihad Stadium.

Immediately after the game, City manager Pep Guardiola admitted that Aguero’s 2019/20 season could be over as the striker has been struggling with a knee problem for the past few months.

In an indication that the problem is serious, the club released a statement on Tuesday that they are sending the 32-year-old to see Barcelona based surgeon, Ramon Cugat, who is said to be the “Messi of Medicine” – having saved many footballers’ careers including Guardiola and Messi.

Aguero’s father, Leonel Del Castillo, has revealed that the forward wants to undergo surgery as soon as this week, so he can recover and have the opportunity to return for City’s crucial Champions League fixture against Real Madrid in August.

He said: “I calculate that Thursday or Friday he will have surgery in Barcelona, where it was the last time. After the surgery, we will be in Barcelona for five or six days and return to Manchester for recovery. He said he wanted to do it now to get to play the UCL.”
