RSF Seizes Zamzam Camp Amid Civilian Deaths

Sudan’s Rapid Support Forces (RSF) have taken control of the Zamzam displacement camp near El Fasher in North Darfur following two days of attacks involving ground troops and air strikes.
Local sources report that more than 200 civilians, including children and aid workers, were killed.
The RSF claimed the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) had been using the camp as a military base – an allegation denied by the SAF. A United Nations official stated that over 100 people were feared dead, while a faction aligned with Darfur Governor Minni Minnawi estimated the toll to be over 400.
Relief International confirmed the deaths of all its medical staff at Zamzam and the destruction of its clinic. Human rights organisations have accused the RSF of widespread brutality, including the use of sexual violence against civilians.
The conflict has displaced over 12 million people, and the International Rescue Committee has called it the “biggest humanitarian crisis ever recorded.” A conference on Sudan, led by United Kingdom Foreign Secretary, David Lammy, is scheduled in London this week to address the crisis.
The RSF’s continued offensive highlights the growing humanitarian catastrophe in the Darfur region, nearly two years into the ongoing war.
