Ronaldinho Arrested Over Fake Passport

Barcelona legend, Ronaldinho, and his brother, Roberto, have been detained by the Paraguay police for being in possession of allegedly altered passports.

The football magician arrived in Paraguay on Wednesday, 4 March, for a charity event. The police didn’t arrest him at the airport in order to avoid potential fan commotion but instead went to his hotel where they found passports bearing the names of Ronaldinho and Roberto but with Paraguayan nationality.

Ronaldinho is regarded as one of the most talented players of his generation – having won multiple trophies with Barcelona, a FIFA World Cup with Brazil, as well as the prestigious Ballon d’Or in 2015.

Apparently, the 39-year-old’s passport was seized by Brazilian authorities in 2018 after he failed to pay a fine of over $8.5 million for illegally building a fishing trap without a license.

Paraguay’s interior minister, Euclides Acevedo, says Ronaldinho and his brother were allowed to remain at the hotel under custody and are still under investigation, and its outcome will decide on whether they need to be arrested.

However, Wilmondes Sousa Lira, the man who provided them with the fake passports, has been arrested after the duo claimed that he tricked them.
