Ramaphosa Calls for Hope and Resilience

President Cyril Ramaphosa delivered an inspiring New Year message to the nation on December 31, 2024, emphasizing the importance of hope, resilience, and collective effort as South Africa enters 2025. Speaking from the Union Buildings in Pretoria, Ramaphosa reflected on the strides made in 2024 and the challenges that lie ahead.

The president highlighted progress in key areas, including the stabilisation of the national power grid, which saw a significant reduction in load-shedding during the past year. He credited this achievement to government reforms and partnerships with the private sector. “South Africa has shown that when we work together, no challenge is insurmountable,” Ramaphosa stated.

However, he acknowledged that poverty, unemployment, and inequality continue to cast a shadow over the nation. Ramaphosa reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to driving economic growth, creating jobs, and fostering social cohesion. “The work of rebuilding our nation is far from over, but we are on the right path,” he said.

In his address, Ramaphosa also emphasised the importance of unity in tackling crime and corruption, urging citizens to hold leaders accountable and engage in building stronger communities. “Our democracy thrives when every South African plays their part,” he said.

As South Africa gears up for a critical year in global geopolitics and climate action, the president urged citizens to remain hopeful and resilient. He concluded by wishing the nation a peaceful, prosperous 2025, saying, “Together, we can build the South Africa of our dreams.”
