Priyanka Chopra in Hot Water Over Tweet
Priyanka Chopra was confronted by a Pakistani woman at a beauty convention in Los Angeles on Saturday, 10 August, over a controversial tweet that she had posted in February.
Ayesha Malik called out the 37-year-old actress during a Q&A at the event over her tweet, which was posted just after India had conducted airstrikes in Pakistani areas that same month.
Kashmir has been an area of major dispute between India, Pakistan and China since 1947; recently India has been launching airstrikes on supposed “terror camps” in Pakistan, which has heightened tensions between the two nations.
Chopra tweeted out : “Jai Hind [Victory to India] #IndianArmedForces”
Malik said: “You are a UNICEF ambassador for peace, and you’re encouraging nuclear war against Pakistan. As a Pakstani, millions of people like me have supported you in your business of Bollywood, and you want nuclear war.”
Once security had taken the microphone away from Malik, Chopra merely responded with: “Whenever you’re done venting. Got it, done? Okay, cool.”
Malik later addressed the matter on Twitter, which led to outrage against Chopra, with many social media users calling the actress a “hypocrite”.
