Oprah Winfrey Denies Role in Royal Couple Exit

Media mogul Oprah Winfrey has shot down reports that she advised Prince Harry and Meghan Markle to step back from their roles as “senior” royals.

On Wednesday, 8 January, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex shocked the world when they announced their decision to distance themselves from the British royal family.

Revealing their desire to become financially independent, they also explained that they will be splitting their time between the United Kingdom and North America.

A source told a media outlet that 65-year-old Winfrey – who is close to the couple – influenced them to break away from the British monarchy.

The source explained: “[Winfrey] was the first person to talk to [Prince Harry and Markle] about breaking free and … building on their own brand. She made them realise it was really possible.”

However, in a statement released to another media outlet, Winfrey denied the claim, saying: “[Markle and Prince Harry] do not need my help in figuring out what’s best for them. I care about them both and support whatever decisions they make for their family.”
