Nice Condemn Fan Attack on Players
OGC Nice has publicly denounced the violent confrontation between approximately 400 supporters and the team after their latest defeat, and labelled the incident as “unacceptable”.
The chaos erupted on Sunday, 30 November, when forwards Terem Moffi and Jeremie Boga, along with sporting director Florian Maurice, were physically targeted by fans upon their return to the training centre after their 3-1 defeat to FC Lorient.
Both players, who were allegedly punched, kicked, and spat on, have since been granted medical leave and have pressed charges.
The Ligue 1 club acknowledged the unrest stemmed from their structural issues and sixth consecutive loss, stating in a press release on Tuesday, 2 December: “The club understands the frustration generated by the succession of poor displays and performances far from its values”.
However, they concluded their statement by offering full support to the victims and condemning the acts “in the strongest possible terms”.
The French league has also stepped in to support the players’ legal action.
