Mourinho Appointed as New Tottenham Manager

Tottenham Hotspur confirmed on Wednesday, 20 November, that Jose Mourinho has been appointed as head coach on a contract that will run until 2023.

The 56-year-old’s appointment comes as a surprise after former coach, Mauricio Pochettino, was abruptly sacked on Tuesday night, 19 November, for Spurs’ dismal start to the 2019-20 season. Tottenham are currently 14th on the table, with only three wins to their name from 12 league games.

Spurs chairman, Daniel Levy, shared the news on the team’s website: “In [Jose Mourinho] we have one of the most successful managers in football. He has a wealth of experience, can inspire teams and is a great tactician.”

He added: “He has won honours at every club he has coached. We believe he will bring energy and belief to the dressing room.”

The Special One had been without work since Manchester United gave him the boot in December last year.

Despite a recent streak of bad luck, Mourinho has claimed 25 awards for his talents as a football manager.
