Monday Motivation: 9 May

Got the Monday blues? Reclaim the day and set the tone for the entire week with these helpful, motivational tidbits:

“To try and to fail is not laziness” – African proverb

Often, we are told to attain success on our very first attempt; on the other side of the coin, we are told that failure is the mark of an underachiever who clearly did not do their best the first time around.

In reality, failure should not be looked down upon. Rather, it should be regarded as a sign that you are doing your best – all you can do is don’t give up, change your tactics, and try again!

“Be not afraid of growing slowly; be afraid only of standing still” – Chinese proverb

The world is forever moving fast, and we feel pressure trying to catch up. Getting instant results – and instant gratification, as a result – seemingly takes preference over working, learning and/or playing at a slower, more relaxed pace.

Always remind yourself that no matter how fast everyone else around you is moving, you should progress and persevere at whatever pace suits you. And, even if it feels like a slow process, at least you are still growing and not remaining stagnant.

“A good laugh and a long sleep are the best cures in the doctor’s book” – Irish proverb

We’re all human at the end of the day, so taking a break from the grindstone is always encouraged. So, from a medical standpoint, laughing and sleeping are sound remedies to get you back on your feet!

Having a good laugh raises your blood pressure and boosts your heart rate, so take some time to watch some funny cat videos or trade jokes with your colleagues. As for sleeping, most adults need between seven and nine hours of quality sleep every night to avoid sleep deprivation.
