Mesut Ozil Rescues Arsenal Mascot from Being Sacked

Arsenal’s mascot was in danger of being let go, but Mesut Ozil saved the day by offering to pay the salary of the club dino.
Gunnersaurus – who has been played by Jerry Quy for the past 27 years – was one of the redundancies announced by the north London football club, due to cashflow problems brought on by the coronavirus pandemic.
A fundraiser titled “Save Gunnersaurus” was set up on GoFundMe for Quy on Tuesday, 6 October, and had managed to collect £11 422 of its £70 000 target. Then, the Gunners’ 31-year-old German midfielder stepped in to help.
Ozil took to Twitter on the same day to share his sentiments.
He said: “I was so sad that Jerry Quy aka our famous & loyal mascot @Gunnersaurus [sic] and integral part of our club was being made redundant after 27 years. As such, I’m offering to reimburse Arsenal with the full salary of our big green guy as long as I will be an Arsenal player.”
The response was overwhelmingly positive, with many fans praising the act of charity.
One fan tweeted: “This is pure class. What a guy!”
Gunnersaurus is expected to return when fans are permitted to enter stadiums again.
