Manchester United midfielder, Nemanja Matic, is set to stay for another year after the club extended his contract.

The 31-year-old Serbian international – who signed with the Red Devils in 2017 for £35 million, eventually rising to £40 million – was reportedly considering quitting the club after making only 12 appearances in the English Premier League this season.

However, due to the absence of injured team-mates Scott McTominay and Paul Pogba, Matic has been able to shine on the midfield after being added to the team’s starting line-up in recent matches.

As a result of his improved form, this has apparently led United to trigger a clause in Matic’s contact – which was set to expire this summer – that will see him staying at the club until 2021.

With the extension in place, Matic is now in a position to negotiate a profitable, long-term deal with the Red Devils.
