Man United to Investigate Abuse Aimed at Lingard

Manchester United plans to launch an investigation into alleged abuse from fans aimed at Jesse Lingard, following their FA Cup match win over Derby County on Thursday, 5 March, at Pride Park.

The 27-year-old midfielder has been struggling to find form at Old Trafford over the past few years – Lingard has failed to score or assist a single goal in all of his 20 Premier League appearances this season. His performance has received criticism across social media from Man United fans.

However, the incident that took place after the FA Cup clash “crossed the line” according to Man United; A video that went viral on social media showed fans viciously abusing Lingard – calling him all sorts of disturbing names – while the players were boarding the team bus outside the stadium.

The club’s spokesperson released a statement condemning the abusive behaviour, and the launch of the investigation. They mentioned they will be working with Derby to ensure those responsible are brought to account.
