Liverpool Sink Chelsea to Lift UEFA Super Cup

Liverpool won the 2019 European Super Cup after beating Chelsea 5-4 on penalties following a 2-2 draw in Istanbul, Turkey.

The all-English teams Super Cup final was a tough battle between 2019 UEFA Champions League winner, Liverpool, and 2019 Europa League winner, Chelsea.

It was a close game with regular time ending with a 1-1 draw, then the match went into extra time. Sadio Mane conceded a second goal for Liverpool in the 95th minute but Chelsea midfielder Jorginho equalized in the 101st minute of the game.

The thrilling 2-2 cup tie was then forced to penalties in order to separate the holders of the Champions League and Europa League trophies and find the “Super” champions of Europe.

Liverpool’s players made no mistakes and netted all five of their shots. Chelsea tried for the same, but Tammy Abraham missed their fifth shot, handing Liverpool the win.

Adrian, who joined Liverpool just nine days ago, has risen from being a free agent goalkeeper with no club to the 2019 UEFA Super Cup hero by saving Abraham’s shot.

What a night! The Reds’ captain Jordan Henderson couldn’t help but praise Chelsea for a good run. He said: “It was a tough game, Chelsea are a good side.”
