Liverpool Faces Another Setback as Gomez Undergoes Surgery

Liverpool’s defence has been dealt another blow after Joe Gomez suffered a serious knee injury while on international duty, on Wednesday, 11 November 2020.

The club confirmed in a statement that the 23-year-old centre-back underwent a successful operation “to repair a tendon in his left knee” on Thursday, 12 November.

However, the England international is set for a lengthy spell on the sidelines, with many hopeful that he will return towards the end of the 2020/21 season.

There’s no sugarcoating it: Jurgen Klopp’s defensive selection is a nightmare.

The 53-year-old German manager has voiced his frustrations over the amount of matches players are forced to play due to the COVID-19 pandemic. He believes this season’s crowded schedule will lead to many more future unfortunate injuries.

The Reds are set to face Premier League leaders, Leicester City, on 21 November at home, immediately after the international break without three of their first-choice back four.

Klopp has been tipped to consider the 19-year-old, Rhys Williams, who has featured five times this season for the first team.
