Most people start daydreaming about retirement once they reach their 50s, but not Kazuyoshi Miura – he just signed a new contract to keep playing the beautiful game.

The 52-year-old Japanese striker recently signed a 12-month contract with Yokohama FC, a first division club in the J.League Cup.

He made three appearances for Yokohama in the league during the 2019/20 season, but did not find the back of the net on each occasion.

In a statement on the club’s website, Miura said: “I will make daily efforts to achieve the goal of staying in the division but won’t forget the feelings of gratitude and to enjoy football.”

Miura – nicknamed “King Kazu” for his lively on-field style – has a career that spans over 34 years. He turns 53 in February, but he is already in the Guinness Book of Records for being the oldest professional football player.
