Irv Gotti, 54, Passes Away

Irv Gotti, the co-founder of Murder Inc. Records, has died at the age of 54.
According to reports, Gotti passed away on Wednesday, 5 February. The cause of death has yet to be disclosed, although he was recovering from a minor stroke that he suffered in August 2024.
Born Irving Domingo Lorenzo Jr. in 1970, the New York City-based record producer began working in the artists and repertoire department at Def Jam Recordings. Then, with his brother Chris, he co-founded Murder Inc. Records in 1998.
Through his record label, Gotti was able to produce albums for the likes of Ashanti, Ja Rule and Vita. He also worked with artists such as DMX, Jennifer Lopez, Jay-Z and Kanye West.
Following the news of Gotti’s death, tributes have been pouring in from fans, colleagues and collaborators alike, including one from Def Jam:
“His contributions at Def Jam, as both an A&R executive and in partnership with Murder Inc., helped pave the way for the next generation of artists and producers, a force that reshaped the soundscape of hip-hop and R&B.
“His creative genius and unwavering dedication to the culture birthed countless hits, defining an era of music that continues to resonate with fans worldwide. Our thoughts are with his family, friends, and all those who were touched by his work.”
