Bayern Munich striker, Robert Lewandowski, is set to miss Poland’s World Cup qualifier against England on Wednesday, 31 March, due to a knee injury he suffered on Sunday, 28 March.

The 33-year-old Poland captain limped off the field after netting 2 goals for his national team, and contributing to their 3-0 victory over Andorra.

During the post-match interview, Poland’s head coach said Lewandowski was replaced as a precaution to avoid possible further damage, because the forward had complained of knee pain.

However, a statement released by the Football Association on Monday, 29 March, confirmed that the superstar has sustained a knee ligament injury and has been ruled out for the upcoming clash against England.

It reads: “Robert Lewandowski will not play in Wednesday’s 2022 World Cup qualifying match against England. Clinical tests have shown damage to the collateral ligament of the right knee.”

The statement further confirmed that the Polish forward will be sent back to Allianz Arena to “undergo further rehabilitation”.
