“He Was Gone” Doctor Confirms Eriksen’s Cardiac Arrest on the Pitch

Denmark’s team doctor, Morten Boesen, has confirmed that Christian Eriksen’s heart stopped beating before being resuscitated with a defibrillator during his national team’s Euro 2020 game against Finland on Saturday, 12 June.

Eriksen collapsed in the 42nd-minute of the match while he was running towards the left touchline, something that brought the football world to a standstill – as fans across the globe watched the medical staff performing CPR and battling to resuscitate him.

According to Boesen, the Inter Milan midfielder suffered a heart attack after collapsing.

He said: “[Eriksen] was gone, we did cardiac resuscitation, it was a cardiac arrest. How close were we? I don’t know. We got him back after one defib (defibrillation), so that’s quite fast.”

Although the cause of his heart attack is not yet known, the 29-year-old Danish international is stable in hospital.

The midfielder has also sent a message to his Denmark team members – who were seen in tears with worry about their teammate – to confirm that he is recovering well after the horrific pitch incident.
