Harvey Weinstein Guilty of Sexual Assault, Rape

Disgraced Hollywood mogul, Harvey Weinstein, has been found guilty of committing sexual assault and rape.

At least 80 women had accused the 67-year-old producer of sexual misconduct going back decades, with six women testifying against him in court.

Standing before a 12-person jury in New York City Criminal Court on Monday, 24 February, Weinstein was convicted of third-degree rape and a first-degree criminal sexual act involving two of his six accusers, Mimi Haley and Jessica Mann.

He was acquitted of the more serious charges of predatory sexual assault, as well as one count of first-degree rape. However, he still faces charges in Los Angeles, California, of assaulting two women in 2013.

As a result of his conviction, Weinstein faces a minimum of five years and a maximum of 25 years in prison.

Per reports, the producer was taken to New York’s Bellevue Hospital following his court appearance, after allegedly feeling chest pains and having high blood pressure. He is expected to be moved into a correctional facility afterwards.

Weinstein’s sentencing is scheduled for 11 March.
