Harry Kane Scores His Way Into History Books

Harry Kane etched himself into the history books by breaking the English football team’s all-time record for goals scored by a single player on Thursday, 23 March.
The moment came during a close match against their hosts, Italy, at Stadio Diego Armando Maradona in Naples. The Three Lions walked away with a 2-1 victory.
A shaky pre-match rendition of “God Save the King” by Italian-American singer, Ellynora, drew raised eyebrows from the players and fans who were treated to two rounds of the first verse of the British anthem. The singer – who blamed the mistake on a faulty earpiece – was booed by the crowd.
Despite the rocky start, midfielder Declan Rice set the tone by scoring the first point for England just 13 minutes into the game.
A penalty awarded at the 42nd-minute mark gave Kane his moment to shine, as he scored his 54th international goal with clinical precision. The previous record – held by forward Wayne Rooney with 53 goals – was crushed.
Striker Mateo Retegui was able to claim a single point for Italy at the 56th minute, with help from defender Luca Pellegrini.
“This has been a really special night for me personally and a really special night for the team,” Kane said during the post-match press conference.
