Gary Neville Backs Man City to Beat Ban

Retired footballer-turned-pundit, Gary Neville, believes that Manchester City has what it takes to overturn their two-year-ban from European football.

Last Friday, 14 February, the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) banned the English Premier League outfit – who were in breach of Financial Fair Play (FFP) rules between 2012 and 2016 – from any continental competition for two seasons.

In response to the ban – which also includes a €30 million fine – the Citizens said that they would appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport to overturn the decision.

In a recent television broadcast, Neville showed his support for the club while also berating UEFA.

He explained: “I have always thought that FFP is the wrong way to apply the rules … I think essentially [UEFA] are a hopeless organisation who will just apply what would be erratic disciplinary sanctions for different things, and I think City will beat them in the courts.”

Neville added: “I think it will get stuck in the courts for some time, but I think City will win in the end.”
