FIFA Extends NC Mandate and Sets NFA Congress Deadline

FIFA has issued an official letter to the chairperson of the Namibia Football Association (NFA) Normalisation Committee (NC), Hilda Basson-Namundjebo, confirming the deadline for the NFA congress and extending the NC’s mandate to March 2020.

The Normalisation Committee was initially elected in February 2019, to amend Namibia’s broken football structures and conduct elections for the new NFA executives.

However, due to the complexity of the task, FIFA had to extend the committee’s mandate several times – and this time, it has been postponed until after the NFA congress deadline.

According to the world’s football mother body’s letter, the purpose of this extension is to ensure that the decisions of the Normalisation Committee – which will act as an electoral committee in the upcoming elective NFA congress – will be final and binding.

Additionally, FIFA has also set a new and hopefully final deadline for the NFA congress to February 2020.

The Normalisation Committee has also met with Namibian Premier League (NPL) clubs pending its suspension on Tuesday, 16 October, and according to an inside source, a veteran football administrator and club owner – it’s unlikely football will be played in the country this year.
