EPL Given Resumption Deadline by UEFA

The English Premier League (EPL) has been given until Monday, 15 May 2020 as a deadline to inform the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) of their plans to restart the 2019/20 season.

Discussions of the football competition’s potential return will take place between the clubs, government and public agencies, and other stakeholders on Friday, 01 May 2020.

The Premier League season was brought to a standstill by the Coronavirus pandemic in Mid-March.

The first restart match could be played as early as Saturday, 6 June, to ensure that the season finishes by the end of July.
UK Secretary for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport, Oliver Dowden, says he’s working closely with the clubs to ensure that the season resumes soon.

He said: “I personally have been in talks with the Premier League with a view to getting football up and running as soon as possible in order to support the whole football community.”

He added that any action would need to be “consistent with public health guidance.”

On Monday, 27 April, Arsenal, Everton and West Ham welcomed their first teams back to their training grounds. However, they must still ensure that they obey social distancing guidelines.

All matches are likely to be played behind closed doors, and meticulous testing would be put in place.
