EPL Clubs Want the 2019/20 Season Cancelled

According to several reports, a host of Premier League clubs want the current season to be declared null and void with immediate effect amid the ongoing coronavirus crisis.

The England top flight league suspended all its games until April 30 due to the COVID-19 epidemic. There are currently over 11,500 confirmed coronavirus cases in the UK and over 578 deaths recorded.

However, in a recent meeting, EPL executives suggested the option of playing behind closed doors.

A decision that a number of Premier League clubs are reportedly not happy about due to worries over safety and travel restrictions.

Apparently, most EPL teams believe that the COVID-19 situation is going to get worse by the day and therefore are reluctant to resume the season during the current crisis.

Although matches can be played to empty stadiums, those games still require a number of emergency service workers to attend and if any players could get injured, they would take much-needed hospital space.

If the season is cancelled, this could deny Liverpool their first title in 30 years. The Reds are 25 points clear at the top of the table and currently only need two more wins before lifting the EPL silverware.

The next Premier League executive meeting is scheduled to take place on Friday, 3 April and the continuation or cancellation decision will be decided in that meeting.
