De Gea Injured, Doubtful for Liverpool Clash

Manchester United goalkeeper, David De Gea, may be set to miss the club’s upcoming Premier League match against Liverpool, after picking up a suspected hamstring injury while on international duty.

During the first half of the Euro 2020 qualifier between Spain and Sweden on Tuesday, 15 October, the 28-year-old Spaniard dropped to the ground in pain after clearing a backpass from a team mater.

He was quickly taken off the pitch and replaced by Kepa Arrizabalaga. Spain went on to draw 1-1 with Sweden.

In a post-match press conference, Spain’s manager, Robert Moreno explained: “[De Gea] had pain in the abductor muscle, but he received treatment at half-time and wanted to keep playing. He gave us his word, but in the end he couldn’t continue.”

In a recently released statement, Manchester United confirmed that coach Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will provide an update on De Gea’s fitness levels this Friday, 18 October, at a pre-game press conference.

The Red Devils will play against Liverpool this Saturday, 19 October, which could potentially see Sergio Romero starting in goal in De Gea’s place.
