Cristiano Ronaldo Tests Positive for Coronavirus

As several parts of the world anticipate a second wave of coronavirus (COVID-19) infections, the footballing world has taken a knock: Cristiano Rolando has tested positive for the virus.

Portugal’s Football Federation (PFF) confirmed the news via a statement posted to their website on Tuesday, 13 October.

The 35-year-old Juventus forward is asymptomatic, but will not play with Portugal in their Nations League match with Sweden tonight,Wednesday 14 October. He is said to be in good health and isolating, the federation added.

The PFF relayed that the rest of the squad – who played in the national team’s 0-0 draw against France last week – have all tested negative for COVID-19, and “are available to [coach] Fernando Santos for training this afternoon.”

On Monday, 12 October, the five-time Ballon d’Or winner posted a photo on Instagram, showing himself – blissfully unaware – having dinner with the rest of his Portuguese teammates.

Portugal will take on Sweden in Alvalade, Lisbon, at 19:45.
