Cosmos Speaks on NPL Saga

The FIFA Normalization Committee’s (NC) deputy chairperson, Franco Cosmos, spoke to the media yesterday, 16 September, to clarify matters regarding their current dispute with the Namibia Premier League (NPL).

Cosmos stated that the reason why the country’s three divisions remain inactive is because of NPL’s refusal to renounce its dispute – which is registered with the Namibia Sports Commission – against the national football mother body of the Namibia Football Association.

He said: “After [the NPL’s] meeting on Wednesday, they wanted to meet Thursday or Friday. I informed them that their request was on short notice. We will meet tomorrow to deliberate on the issues, and revert to them.”

Cosmo’s elaborated that FIFA wants the three leagues to start at the same time, and are ready to finance the three first division streams on condition that the leagues start at the same time.

He added that NPL was requested to: retract the announcement of the league and fixtures programme; retract their dispute with the NC and openly engage with one another; to use the NC-approved channels for promotion and relegation.

He concluded with: “Let us meet at the table if you have addressed these things, so we [can] discuss the way forward..”
