Cameroon Chaos: Coach Sacked, Onana Axed

Cameroon faces the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in complete disarray after the dramatic dismissal of coach Marc Brys and the controversial omission of several star players.

The 63-year-old Belgian manager was sacked by the Cameroonian Football Federation and its newly re-elected president, Samuel Eto’o, following the team’s failure to qualify for the World Cup.

A scathing statement was shared via X/Twitter on Monday, 1 December, listing accusations of “professional failure” and claiming he used “subterfuge to evade his professional obligation to hold press conferences”.

Brys’ assistant, David Pagou, has been installed as the replacement.

Pagou’s first act was to name a squad for the upcoming tournament without key names, most notably goalkeeper Andre Onana. The revered keeper’s exclusion, which follows his prior disciplinary issues at major tournaments, signals an uncertain future with the national team.

Veteran captain Vincent Aboubakar was also surprisingly left out.

Facing a challenging Group F, including title holders Ivory Coast, the team enters the competition under intense scrutiny, with a new coach and crucial experienced players missing.
