4 Tips for Taking Care of Acne-Prone Skin

Managing your skin can be challenging, especially if your skin is prone to breaking out in pimples.

Acne is common during puberty – that’s when your hormones go into overdrive, causing your skin to overproduce a type of oil called sebum, which lubricates the skin and hair.

Although acne becomes less common after your teen years, it can still be embarrassing when those pesky red spots pop up out of the blue.

Don’t despair – if you ever find yourself in a zitty situation, remember these four incredible tips for taking care of your skin:

Keep Your Face Clean

Wash your face twice a day with warm water and a mild soap containing salicylic acid or glycolic Acid. Gently massage your face in circular motions with either your hands or a very soft cloth. Rinse well, and then pat your face dry with a clean towel.

Apply Sunscreen

In summer, apply a water-based sunscreen with SPF of at least 30, as it will provide the necessary protection and hydration to the skin without adding extra oil.

Keep the Skin Hydrated

Drinking about 10 to 12 glasses of water a day will keep the pimples at bay. Also, applying a water-based moisturiser will protect your skin from the summer heat, reducing the chance of breakouts.

Use Make-up Sparingly

Heavy make-up can block your pores and result in a breakout. Avoid wearing foundation, powder or blush where possible to prevent the pimples popping up. If you do wear make-up, wash it off at the end of the day.
